As we are in the middle of the long dark cold of winter, looking toward February’s day of romance is something which brings many couples much joy, light, and hope in the dark days. Some call it a greeting card scheme, but the history of Valentines Day dates back many centuries, and certainly long before the invention of the greeting card. There are several saints who carried the name Valentine and the history is a little vague. However, like any good Disney film all the best bits came together to create s
omething exciting, beautiful, heart-warming and full of colour.
If you’re a Disney fan and a romantic, 2012 Florida holidays may be just the ticket for you. February is a dark and drizzly time of year for many parts of the world so getting the chance to fly off to a sunny destination is ideal. Valentine’s Day is a perfect time to escape with that special someone and Disney World Florida has a great many options for couples.
If you’re thinking of a romantic getaway this February, why not enjoy a unique Disney World experience? After all Orlando’s favourite theme parks have more than just rides on offer.
Here are just 5 of the many wonderfully romantic things you can do at Disney Orlando for Valentine’s Day 2012:
1. Dine in Style/Theme: Even in the middle of a sunny afternoon in Orlando, you can step indoors to a magical twilight world and enjoy a romantic boat ride next to a model of an Aztec temple. Afterwards (or before) you can enjoy a candlelit dinner by the water, at the base of the temple; a truly unique experience. Disney has a great choice of dining options from the very special Victoria & Albert, to California Grill, Flying Fish Café, Artist Point, and Bistro de Paris. The most exotic places to eat are at Epcot, where you’ll find the Mexico Pavilion and the very romantic La Hacienda de San Angel. There is some fantastic views and scenery to take in here. You’ll find dining here to be something extra special for you and your loved one. Mexico is a personal favourite of mine where you can even go on a lovely boat ride tour through the shady lagoon near to a smoking volcano!
2. Walk the Boardwalk: Disney World’s boardwalk is incredibly beautiful and perfect for a post dinner stroll when the lights come on and brighten your peaceful walk by the water of Crescent Lake. Many a proposal has happened here and it’s a great place to unwind and simply take time to wander together. The boardwalk was designed after the much loved boardwalks of 20th century America. At
night there are street performers and live entertainment along the boardwalk and even some classic carnival games.
3. Stay at the Polynesian: This resort has it all. It’s one of Disney World’s first resorts and is right next to some gorgeous white sand beaches. The resort itself is gorgeous offering great dining, romantic rooms, and view of Magic Kingdom. After a day out at Disney and a good meal, wander hand in hand along the beach, then settle in (the best place is at Sunset Point)and watch the fireworks light up the sky over Magic Kingdom; a perfect romantic evening, unforgettable.
4. Take a dinner cruise: Imagine a romantic dinner for two, and a view of one of Disney’s most beloved fireworks displays while cruising around the Seven Seas Lagoon and other areas around Disney World. Your options are plenty, from the casual to the refined, but each option provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the pleasure of being on the water, the great views and witness fireworks lighting up the sky and surrounding water while you sip your wine and enjoy each other’s company.
5. Go for some “old fashioned” romance: an old fashioned horse-drawn carriage ride is still cozy and romantic and provides a great way for you two to enjoy seeing the park from a different perspective and get cuddled up! Or, if you’re a fan of old sci-fi films and wish to do it like they did in the 50s, the unique sci-fi dine in theatre provides a fun date opportunity with the tables set inside old 50s-style car replicas and 50s favourites like milkshakes and burgers are served to you right in the car. You can watch B movie clips while laughing and chatting under the stars.
