The term “Vizcaya” is a Basque word meaning “an elevated place. Vizcaya Museum and Gardens was built in 1916. It is filled with European furniture and decorative arts from the 15th to 19th century. The gardens contain a number of Italian and French fountains, pools and sculptures. A breakwater at the base of the steps leading into Biscayne Bay is carved into the form of female figures.
The Miami Metro Zoo is rated among the top 10 zoos in USA. This cage less zoo is five times larger than an average USA zoo. It is over 300 acres of land and showcases more than 1,300 animals and over 400 species. You can find Asian River Otters, giraffes, Komodo Dragons, Bengal Tigers, zebras, koalas, kangaroos and lions.
