The Canton Tower is the tallest building in China; besides having an observation deck, the tower also has a 4-D theater among other avenues of entertainment. Huaibei Ski Resort, near Beijing

Located about 70 kilometres outside of Beijing, Huaibei Ski Resort is widely know as being the largest resort that’s easily accessible from the capital. It has something to offer skiers of all levels, even if they’ve never taken to the piste. Skiing season at Huaibei is between December and March and has six different trails for skiers to try out. This one is definitely worth a visit, and if you’re a tourist in China it has a very good location, too. It takes roughly an hour to get to the resort by car from the centre of Beijing, and will cost around $50 (US) per day to ski. There are plenty of ski lifts to keep your legs well looked after, too!

Wanlong Ski Resort, Hebei Province

This well known resort is very popular amongst locals, which really says something about its quality. It’s located around four hours outside of Beijing, so it’s quite well located (in the grand scheme of things). The Wanlong Ski Resort is proud to boast that it resides on China’s largest ski mountain, offering all skiers something they’ll love. In peak seasons the resort can see up to 3000 visitors per weekend, but don’t worry, there’s plenty of wide open space for you to enjoy the type of ski you want. The Wanlong resort also features a cabin right at the top of the mountain which gives skiers a warm retreat from the cold and offers a warm cosy atmosphere. Wanlong comes highly recommended to all  China-based skiers!

Yabuli Ski Resort, Heilongjiang Province

Whilst the Huaibei above is the largest resort you can easily get to from Beijing, the Yabuli Ski Resort is the ‘big daddy’ of all resorts in China. Its high season is between December and April, and it’s very popular amongst locals and tourists like. One thing worth noting about the Yabuli resort is that it has only one ski lift, making it a little difficult to get to the intermediate and advanced pistes. Having said this, Yabuli have said that they plan to install more ski lifts as soon as they can. Regardless of the slight accessibility issues, you should have a fine time at Yabuli. There are plenty of cosy hotels nearby which can serve as a great ‘base camp’ for skiers looking for a few days of fun in the Chinese snow.

It may not be widely credited as such, but China has a thriving ski scene, so if you like to slip and slide down a mountainside, it’s the perfect location for you.
