India is known worldwide for its diversified travel and tourism culture. Taj Mahal is one of the most amazing, beautiful and attractive tourist destinations for domestic and foreign travelers. Its architectural beauty makes it a sensational monument. The Taj Mahal was given recognition by UNESCO as a world heritage site in 1983.

Radisson B&B Family Package

History

The TAJ MAHAL has a very unique history of a story of love culminating into a creative magnificence. In other words, it’s the love of Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan for his beloved wife Mumtaz that gives us the most precious seventh wonder of the world.

Construction of Taj Mahal started in the year 1630 and took 22 years to finish in 1652 after an expenditure of rupees 32 million. It was built on the bank of Yamuna and set amidst landscaped gardens.

Shaha Jahan built this perfectly symmetrical monument with the help of world’s greatest Persian architect Ustad Ahamed Lahauri. It is said that to built Taj Mahal 20,000 workers, masons and jewelers worked day and night along with 1,000 elephants for transportation of raw materials. Finest artisans like carpenter, masons, stone cutters, carvers, calligraphers, domebuilders from Central Asia and Iran were engaged for the construction.

Architecture

The architecture is the combination of Persian, Islamic and Indian styles, which displayed the immaculate usage of marble, which were brought from all over India and other parts of Asia. Built on the foundation of a sandstone platform, the creative excellence of the monument is reflected in the main dome (with a diameter of 60 feet and a height of 80 feet above the main construction). The tomb of Mumtaz and Shah Jahan, placed side by side, just below the dome justifies the epitome of love, especially when they seem to be floating mid-air from a distance.

Many varieties of precious and semiprecious stones are used to adorn the Taj with exquisite inlay work. Amazingly, this provides a different hue to the monument, depending on what time of the day or night you are visiting it. Calligraphic inscriptions from passages of Quran have been used as a decorative element throughout the monument. Written in the florid thuluth script, these inscriptions were engraved by a Persian calligrapher Amanat Khan.

Reaching there

Most parts of India are directly connected to Agra by trains and road. Direct flights are available from all metropolitan cities in India. Private air lines offer cheap flights as well as various travel packages. It is best to get down at the Kheria airport, which is 8 km away from city centre. Take a taxi from there to the monument.

Agra can be reached by train too. There are four near-by station—Agra Cantt, Raja-ki-Mandi and Idgah Agra junction. The city is well connected by super fast, express/mails to Delhi and other important cities of India. So, visit your nearest travel dealer and book a cheap vacation travel deal to the city.

Are you on an exotic trip to India? Do not forget to include a trip to the magnificent Rajasthan that can take you to the land of valorous king, beautiful queens and enchanting stories of the Indian freedom. The culture and tradition of the state is as colourful as its people. So delve into the colours of India and its people with a trip to the state and gift your family with the most memorable days of their lives.

And if you are in Rajasthan, do not miss out on the camel ride or the camel safari. The immensity of the Thar Desert and the slow yet meandering trails of the camels can bring you face to face with the daily desert life and its challenges. While on a journey, you could stop over at the desert village and taste the home-made cuisine made with Indian spices and herbs.
A Camel Safari in India can be booked in advance for winter as most of them are organised then. This is because the desert weather is complaisant for travellers, unlike summers when it’s terribly hot and dry. Therefore, ideally, the best time for camel safari is from November to March, when the days are cool and comfortable and the nights are pretty cold. But the winter nights could be fun as the camel safari package includes dinner, dance and traditional music around bonfire. The setting sun and the immense expanse of the desert with soothing music is something that goes well with any poet’s imagination.

The itinerary
Most of the camel safaris begin from Jaisalmer in Rajasthan, which can be easily reached from all parts of the world by air. The rest of India is accessible through road too. You can take a camel safari to Jaipur, which is also the capital of Rajasthan. Bikaner and Mandwa are some of the other stops in the states where a camel safari begins. It is best to book your vacation travel deals in advance as these trips are much sought after among the tourists from across the world. You can opt for 2, 3, or even month long camel trips across the desert, which give you ample scope to explore the desert life and live the life of the people there.

Things that You need
A desert trip on a camel’s back can be real fun, but there are certain things that need your attention and alertness to avoid any unfavourable circumstances in the desert weather. Choose your clothes wisely as winter nights in the desert can be very cold. Therefore, woollens form an important part of the baggage. Carry your own mattress (though it is usually provided by the organising party), sleeping bag and bedding. Additional blanket could be of used if it’s too cold.

So, be there in Rajasthan and enjoy the desert safari for a memorable vacation in the incredible India.

What once was an mainly Indian festival is now becoming more mainstream in the U.S. (especially with an episode of The Office displaying Michael Scott’s confusion over what exactly Diwali was), but what is Diwali besides being known at the “festival of lights?” Here are some facts to get you acquainted with this unique occasion, which is the most celebrated Hindu festival.

Diwali is a Widely Celebrated Holiday

While Diwali is celebrated by Hindus all over the world, in the U.S., 2 million Americans celebrate Diwali.

The Hindu New Year

Much like Judaism’s Rosh Hashanah, Diwali is almost like a combination of Hanukkah’s festival of lights and America’s Fourth of July’s firework celebrations.

The Meaning of Diwali

On a deeper, more spiritual level, Diwali symbolizes the triumph of good over evil. One of the legends Diwali commemorates is the return of Hinduism’s Lord Rama from a 14-year exile in the forest. According to the ancient Hindu epic “Ramayana,” Lord Rama destroys the 10-headed demon Narakasura, and, on his return home, villagers light lamps to show him the way home. The name Diwali literally means “row of lights.”

What Happens at Diwali?

Most of India takes off work to celebrate Diwali, and for good reason. The days’ festivities include praying at Hindu temples and delivering food to friends and families. Participants also purchase new clothes and clean their homes from top to bottom. Traditional Diwali parties consist of dancing, variety acts and skits, and, of course, fireworks. Firecrackers symbolize keeping the evil spirits at bay, and small, clay lanterns (called diyas) stay lit all night.

The Six Days of Diwali

Diwali falls on the new moon night between mid-October and mid-November. It is celebrated for six days, which include:

Vasu Baras: Vasu means cow, which is a sacred animal to Hindus. On this day, the cow and calf are worshiped.

Dhanatrayodashi: This day is considered a fortunate day for shopping for silverware and other gold and silver items.

Naraka Chaturdashi: This marks the day on which the 10-headed demon was killed and symbolizes the victory of good over evil. In South India, this is the day of the largest festivities. Hindus wake up well before dawn, take a fragrant oil bath, and purchase new clothes for the day. They light lamps all around the house and shoot off firecrackers at night.

Lakshmi Puja: On this day, Hindus worship Lakshmi, the goddess of wealth, and Ganesh, the God of fortunate beginnings, by lighting lamps all across the city to welcome good fortune.

Govardhan Puja: Also called Annakut, which translates to “heap of grain,” this day is celebrated as the day Krishna, who is the “supreme being” in Hinduism, defeated Indra when he was overtaken with pride and was destroying the pastureland. Men present gifts to their wives on this day.

Bhaiduj: Bhaiduj is a significant day for brothers and sisters to show each other their love. Sisters will perform the Teeka ceremony, praying for their brothers to have long and happy lives, while brothers will give gifts to their sisters.

Diwali has passed for this year, but now that you know a little bit about this special holiday you can be sure to pay extra attention to the holiday next year!

About the Author: Darcie has a huge interest in different cultures and the holidays they celebrate. When she’s not looking for a reason to celebrate, she can be found writing about personal finance, secure bad credit loans, marketing, business, and insurance.
India is a riot of colours and flavours while the peaceful natural landscapes and breath-taking architecture will move even the most world-weary traveller.

With cheap food, friendly locals, visas easily obtained and hundreds of hostels to choose from, it’s no wonder this diverse country is a well-trodden stop on the backpacker trail.

Not sure where to go first? No problem; book flights to India then take a look at our handy guide

Colours of Calcutta

This is a good city to start with as it isn’t quite as crazy as Mumbai or as jam-packed as Delhi but gives you an idea of what’s to come. Despite its poverty-stricken reputation, Calcutta is a thriving and lively city. Home of Mother Theresa and the British Raj, Calcutta is a shire to colonial architecture, which may remind you a little of home! North Calcutta is where you’ll find the bustling market streets of Shambazar, an ancient church and a beautiful Marble Palace.

Old and New Delhi

Upping the ante now, the capital Delhi is a captivating and chaotic jumble of traditional villages and modern architecture from cinemas to shopping malls. There are palatial ruins on the banks of the Yamuna River, as well as other stunning sights like the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb and the Qutub Mosques and Minarets, now a UNESCO world heritage site.

Chaotic Mumbai

Possibly one of the most frenzied cities in India, Mumbai goes from devastating slums to glass skyscrapers and glitzy bars. Bollywood is well worth a visit, as are the ancient Bazaars where you can haggle to your heart’s content. There are more colonial monuments than you could shake a stick at, not to mention the cricket mecca, The Oval. To get away from the waves of people and hundreds of rickshaws, cycles and motorbikes vying for space on the roads, escape to Chowpatty beach and the temples carved out of the rock on Elephant Island.

Gotta Get to Goa

After the non-stop, head spinning sights, sounds and colours of the city, it’s time to tone it down to just three, white sands, blue sea and green palms. Goa has been a hippy paradise since the ‘60s, and still popular with backpackers. If all you long for is some sun and surf, and perhaps a beach party under the stars you’ll find that here. But, don’t miss this former Portuguese enclave’s historic churches, stunning architecture and a unique cuisine.

High in the Himalayas

After being at sea level for a few days you may start to crave dizzier heights. If so, then the incredible Himalayas should satisfy those urges. In the winter months, ski-enthusiasts flock to the snow-capped peaks, while the summer brings trekking, rafting and paragliding. If you want the views without the effort, take the chairlift to the top and be prepared to be captivated.

Agra’s most famous Memorial

India’s most famous attraction nestles in the surroundings of stunning landscaped gardens in the centre of an industrial city. The majestic Taj Mahal is a lasting monument to love that doesn’t fail to captivate the traveller and makes the entire long-haul trip to India completely worth it. Don’t miss the often overlooked Baby Taj Itimad-ud-Daulah; another magnificent piece of Mogul Empire architecture.

Calming Kerala

Let your backpacking tour of India end on Kerala’s calm shores and sleepy backwaters where you can completely relax as you watch fishermen casting their nets while feasting on fresh fish as the sun glows in the sky. The heart of Southern India is mostly lush green forest, abundant with wildlife and lazy winding rivers leading to rice paddies, coconut groves and tiny rural villages. You can sunbathe, trek and float along the river on a boat eating food from banana leaves. Let your last days in India be cardamom scented and unforgettable.

Here lies the “Harmandir Sahib” or the Golden Temple; as it is more popularly known. It is the most famous of the many temples in Amritsar. Golden Temple is a significant symbol of Sikh religion, history and culture. The temple was founded by the fourth Guru of Sikhs, Guru Ramdas and was completed by his successor Guru Arjan Dev. The temple represents the spirit of tolerance and acceptance that the Sikh philosophy propounds.

The temple is being built on a sixty-seven feet square platform in the midst of a “Sarovar” (tank). It has a door each on the east, west, north and south. An arch named “Darshani Deori” stands at the shore end. The door panes of the arch are magnificently decorated and they open on to the bridge that leads you to the main temple building. The architecture of the building reflects a unique amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim architectural styles. It is one of the finest examples of human architecture across the globe. Historians believe it created an independent Sikh school of architecture in the history of Indian art.

While visiting the Golden Temple, you can roam around the nearby places of interest. Lying just opposite to the Golden temple, a trip to “Akal Takhat” will be a fascinating one! Built by the Sixth Sikh Guru Hargobind, has been the nerve centre or the Sikhism ever since. A trip to places like “Baba Atal”, “guru ka Langar”, “Sri Guru Ram das Nivas” will be worth it. Wagah border- a ceremonial outpost on the India – Pakistan border lies close by. Every evening, the soldiers of both countries put up a change of guard ceremony which is worth watching. Golden Temple, with its grandeur and culture remains an absolute must visit.

The Swine Flu is the latest epidemic that is wreaking havoc in the lives of millions the world over. It has almost generated terror in the hearts of humans and more so because very little is known about the virus or its cure. In fact, the situation is such that once anyone gets infected with this virus it is usually considered that the person runs the risk of losing his life. The scenario is even bleaker in case of infants who are at greater risk and whom it may be almost impossible to save. However, due to the sincere efforts of scientists the world over the picture is beginning to look a bit brighter and very recently a vaccine has been introduced in the market. Since the process is still in its nascent stages the vaccine is very limited in number and even very costly with limited availability. Therefore, it is only wise that we pay a diligent ear to the doctor’s words and take our own precautions so that we might not get affected by this virus.

People run the highest risk of getting affected by the Swine Flu (H1N1) virus when they are in crowds. Chances are highest while we travel because it is then that we tend to forget precautionary measures in the rush of the hour. The first step towards precaution is to learn more about the disease because ignorance is the root of terror. Steps like frequently washing the hands, using a handkerchief to cover your cough and keeping the hands off areas of the eye, nose and mouth are important. Doctors and health organizations are also warning sick person to stay at home.

The best precautionary device suggested by clinical experts the world over is the use of surgical masks or the N95 disposable respirator. However, it must be remembered that they should be disposed off on a regular basis. Travelers should religiously wear this mask. A golden tip that doctors give is to at least keep a six feet distance from those showing symptoms of the disease.

States are recommending limited travel to affected parts of the world but if it is essential then travelers can have updated information on the Swine Flu scenario of the place from the CDC website. It is further recommended that you pay the doctor a visit for some required vaccinations about 4 to 6 weeks before you travel so that these stand in good stead and boost your immune system. Always carry a health kit in case of emergency and know whom to contact in case you fall sick in a foreign land. Travel health journals also are valuable sources of information and carrying them along is a very good idea. The 2010 Yellow Book regularly updates information regarding traveling during Swine Flu on its website and checking it is a must before taking a trip. Above all watch out for all the stated precautionary measures and do not be afraid of traveling in times of a crisis like Swine Flu.

Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata are widely known to be the passage through which foreigners gain entry into India. The four destinations house the four major airports of the country and are increasingly becoming significant dots on the transport maps of other countries. The four major airports situated at four corners of the country only make it easier for tourists to travel as close as possible to his chosen destination. Although there are a host of other big airports in the country like in Bengaluru, Amritsar and Guwahati yet they have not yet become the gateways to international carriers. Air India is India’s proud national carrier while Indian Airlines operated more on the domestic front. As of now a merger of the two has taken place. Along with private airlines like Jet Airways and Kingfisher, these airlines along with other major air carriers operate from all the major airports of India, making air travel easier.

Indira Gandhi International Airport (Delhi)

The most important link between India and the rest of the world is through the Indira Gandhi International Airport at Delhi, the capital of India. At present near about 35 airlines are daily operational from this airport and international carriers fly to most major cities of the world. Major star-rated private airlines are operational from this airport and it is also the hub for numerous national carriers. Passenger influx at any time crosses 13000 and is counted among the busiest airports in Asia. Its state-of-the-art décor and technical brilliance has made it operational even during foggy weather.

Netaji Subhash Chandra Basu International Airport (Kolkata)

The Netaji Subhash Chandra Basu International Airport, located some 20 kilometers from Kolkata has been serving as the eastern gateway into India for a long time now. Although more domestic airlines are operational from here yet some international carriers too run their services from this airport. The British Airways, KLM, Singapore Airlines, Thai and some Middle-East private carriers are also running their services from this airport.

Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport (Mumbai)

Being the financial capital of India, Mumbai is increasingly transforming itself into the busiest city in India and hence its airport too is getting busier. The city enjoys two airports, the Chattrapathi Shivaji International Airport and the domestic Santa Cruz Airport. The international airport can undoubtedly be called the busiest in the nation with nearly 45 landings taking place each hour. The terminal is well facilitated and currency exchange counters are located outside the customs area. The departure lounge is a good shopping area and a restaurant and snacks bar also caters to passengers’ needs. This airport is located approximately 26 feet above mean sea level. Taxi and phone facilities are available outside the domestic airport also but no shopping or relaxing options are available.

Top 4 Mumbai museum

International Airport of Chennai (Chennai)

The fourth major airport in the country is the International Airport of Chennai. The ancient Indian advisers used to encourage physical culture through religious rites, a practice globally considered as the most powerful fuel. In ancient India, sports and games were known as “Dehavada”, an approach of realizing body potential to its fullest. There is a mantra in the great “Atharva Veda” that says, “Duty is in my right hand and the fruits of victory in my left”. The sentiment is reflected in the traditional Olympic oath,”…for the honor of my country and the glory of sport.” Many of the sports historians believe the disciplines of Olympic are sophisticated versions of the games of strength and speed that flourished in Greece and ancient India. Chess, polo, wrestling, archery and hockey are believed to have originated in India. In the area of recreation and sports India had evolved a number of games. It is surprising to know that even games like Snakes and Ladders, Playing Cards, the martial arts like Karate and Judo had commenced as a sport in India and from here they were conveyed to other countries where they were further modernized. Some of the popular sports in India are:

Hockey: Hockey is the national game of India. The country has earned global recognition by showing their excellence in this game. Hockey was introduced to the Indians by the British in the 19th century and since then, there was no looking back. The first ever hockey club in India was established in Calcutta (now Kolkata) in 1885-86 which was followed by the formation of hockey clubs in Bombay (now Mumbai) and Punjab. In 1908, ‘Bengal Hockey’, the first hockey association in India was formed. The Indian hockey team stunned the world as they won the Olympic Gold Medal on their debut in the Amsterdam Olympic Games in 1928, that too without conceding a single goal. Since then, India has won seven more Olympic Gold Medals for hockey. From 1928 – 1956, hockey was a one team show in the Olympics as India won the Gold Medals six times consecutively. The country has produced a galaxy of great hockey players like Dhyan Chand, Leslie Claudius. Adam Sinclair, Ajit Pal Singh, Dhanraj Pillay, Dilip Tirkey and more who have won the hearts of many Hockey lovers across the globe.

Cricket: Cricket is the most popular game in India and is often being considered as the unofficial national sports of the country. The game, much like hockey, was introduced to the Indians by the British in the middle half of the 18th century. The national governing body for cricket in India is known as “The Board of Control for Cricket in India” (BCCI). It was established in 1928. India won the Cricket World Cup under the captaincy of Kapil Dev Nikhanj, the great Indian all rounder who once enjoyed the world record of taking most wickets in test cricket. Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly are some of the successful Indian cricketers who had made considerable contribution to the game, both globally and in India.

Chess: Chess is considered as one of the traditional Indian games. The game is mentioned as “Chaturnga” in the historic ‘Gupta Period’ and later it was further modified by the Persians. It is an immensely popular game among the Indians who love to play it during leisure times and it demands a high level of intelligence. Indians were introduced to the modern version of the game under the British rule. This is the time when chess broke the boundaries of royal courts and palaces and reached to the mass. In India, the game is governed by All India Chess Federation (AICF). The association has worked relentlessly to bring out talented chess players who are making their marks in the international arena. In fact, the present world champion in Chess is an Indian, Mr. Vishwanathan Anand. Apart from him, players like Dibyendu Barua, Koneru Humpy, Surya Shekhar Ganguly, D. Harika have performed extraordinarily in the international level.

Tennis: Tennis is one of the most popularly played outdoor games in India. The origin of this game in India can be traced back to the late 19th century when the game was dominated by the British players. But as the game spread across the nation, the Indians started to make their presence felt in the national championships. Some of the most prestigious Indian Tennis Tournaments include the Punjab Lawn Tennis Championship held at Lahore of undivided India (1885), Bengal Lawn Tennis Championship held at Kolkata (1887) and the All India Tennis Championships organized at Allahabad (1910). The Punjab Championship in 1915 saw the emergence of the first world class Indian tennis player Mohammed Saleem from Lahore who emerged victorious. Saleem’s performance inspired the Indian players as more and more Indians started to mark their presence in the game. In 1920, All India Lawn Tennis Association (AILTA) was established at Lahore of undivided India. Contributions from leading tennis players like AA Fayzee, SM Jacob, Leander Paes, Vijay Amritraj, Mahesh Bhupathi and Sania Mirza has aided to enhance the stature of Indian tennis at the international level.

Along with these games, India enjoys a rich tradition of games that are being played from the times of Vedas and Indus Valley Civilization till date. Jallikattu, Kho-Kho, Kabaddi, Ashte–Kahste, Pallanguli, Pachisi are some of the traditional games widely played in several parts of the country. These exciting and intriguing games are considered among the most notable ones in the history of traditional sports in India and promote physical culture among the Indian youth.

The impact of the game in the nation and the influence of the Cricket-stars are so overwhelming that it can easily challenge the glory and fan following of the Indian movie stars on any given day. Originated from the south-east England, the game moved further to the British colonies scattered all over the world and that is how it reached India in the middle half of the 18th century. The oldest references to the sport in India can be dated as early as the year 1725 when some sailors played a friendly match at a seaport in Kutch. The game was focused largely on the large cities earlier like Calcutta (now Kolkata), Bombay (now Mumbai) and Madras (now Chennai). Presidency matches were played initially between European and Parsis; the Hindus and the Muslims joined the league later.

The First Class Cricket in India began in 1864 when a match was played between Madras and Calcutta. In 1877, Bombay presidency joined the league. But the league was awarded the First Class status much later, in 1892-93. In the year 1889-90, an English team led by George Vernon arrived at India which was eventually the first foreign team to visit India. The matches they played were not, however, awarded the First Class Status. “The Board of Control for Cricket in India” (BCCI) was established in 1928. In 1934-35, the first ‘Ranji Trophy’ fixtures took place and the trophy was donated by the ‘Maharaja of Patiala’ in memory of His late Highness Sir Ranjitsinhji Vibhaji of Nawanagar. The ‘Duleep Trophy’ competition was started by the Board of Control for Cricket in India in 1961-62 with the aim of providing a greater competitive edge in domestic cricket.

After the independence in 1947, India secured its first ever Test Series victory against the arch rival Pakistan cricket team in the year 1952. The victory was a great boost to the game as some of the all time gems of the Indian cricket showed their remarkable skills during this Test Series. These players included Vijay Manjarekar, S.M.Gupte and Polly Umrigar. During the 1970’s, Indian Cricket team got one of its most cherished possessions of all times – “The Spin Quartet” comprising of E.Prasanna, B.S.Chandrasekhar, Srinivas Venkataraghavan and Bishan Singh Bedi. The decade also saw the emergence of two Indian batting stalwarts, Sunil Gavaskar and Gundappa Biswanath. In 1983, Indian cricket reached the greatest height as Kapil Dev Nikhanj and his team won the only World Cup for India. India continued to produce world class performers in cricket like Sachin Tendulkar, Saurav Ganguly. Rahul Dravid and the current crop of young talents like Mahendra Singh Dhoni, Yuvraj Singh and Virendra Sehwag. Dhoni led the boys to win the first ever Twenty-Twenty World Cup in 2007. The Indian people’s passion for cricket is renowned in all parts of the world. With such glorious history and pleasant present, the future of Indian cricket certainly appears bright.

Goa, the tropical paradise, is a small state halfway down the west coast of India in the coastal belt of Konkan. Goa is unique in many ways. The state was a Portuguese colony until 1961 and an intriguing fusion of colonial Portugal and modern India is distinctly visible here; in the culture, religion, language, foods and festivals. The ancient churches, the magnificent scenic beauty, the spicy Indo-European romance in Goan cuisine, the laid-back atmosphere, the peerless blend of old and new are sure to mesmerize your senses.

Best time to visit: Goa is blessed with coastal climate. A close vicinity to the Arabian Sea makes the Goan weather and climate a moderate one. During summer (March-June), the temperature in Goa varies between 25°C and 35 °C, though it may climb up to 45 °C at times. Since tourists tend to avoid a Goa trip during summer, it’s an ideal time for budget holidays. The temperature ranges from 20°C to 30°C during the monsoon (June-September) along with the annual rainfall of 2500mm to 3500mm. Those who enjoy rain washed shores and gentle breeze coddling the face, monsoon is the season to be in Goa. But the best time to visit Goa is during the winter (October-March). The temperature ranges from 15°C to 25°C. A barefoot walk across the sandy beaches, the picture perfect blue skies with white clouds strewn here and there makes the stay more colorful and memorable.

International Flights: Goa is well connected with the rest of the country with Dabolim Airport at Dabolim, near Vasco da Gama. The international gateway for Goa is Mumbai. The Dabolim airport is one of the best airports in India that conforms to international norms. There are both scheduled and chartered flights to reach Goa. The tourists need to re-confirm all flights 24 hours prior to departure. Online booking of air tickets are relatively more time saving and reliable. The flights to and from Goa, however, tends to fill up early between December and February.

Accommodation: Goa offers a number of accommodation options. As per the budget and requirement, the tourists can choose from cottages, hotels, beach resorts and lodges in Goa. A good number of Indian hotel chains offer stylish and comfortable accommodation. The beach resorts offer the ideal accommodation for tourists interested to spend their vacation near the sea beach. Along with the luxury hotels and beach resorts, there are several budget hotels and cottages in Goa. But a tourist can surely expect a warm hospitality from any and every accommodation alternative.

Popular Tourist Spots:

1. Anjuna Beach: Tourists from across the globe love to flock at Anjuna Beach. The swaying coconut palms and the soft white sand add to the holiday mood on the shore of the Arabian Sea. It is safe as the sea is calm. Sun bathing is the most favored activity of the sun starved European tourists. The more adventurous of you may even try out bungee jumping. Besides enjoying the natural at its best at the Anjuna beach you may even check out the monumental Mascarenhas Mansion. The Mansion is a must visit owing to its woodwork and the finest floral etchings on glass. The Anjuna Flea Market is now more commercial with a broad range of goods on sale. You may take your pick from the Tibetan, Kashmiri and Gujarati trinkets and handicrafts. The beach market offers everything that your heart may desire. The city lies on the west bank of river Yamuna and is located at the state of Uttar Pradesh in northern India.
Popular Tourist Spots:

1. Taj Mahal: Taj Mahal is one of the most evocative and globally recognizable specimens of Indian architecture. It was built in 1632 A.D. by the Mughal emperor ‘Shah Jahan’ in the loving memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. This place shines at its best at dawn and at dusk when the sunlight reflects on the dome and its color changes from white to shades of pink.

2. Itimad-ud-Daulah’s Tomb: The Itimad-ud-Daulah’s tomb is another marvel of Mughal architecture. It was constructed between 1622 -25 A.D. by Empress Noor Jahan, in memory of her father. This ornate tomb, popularly considered a precursor of the Taj Mahal, reflects the taste and sophistication of an accomplished sovereign.

3. Agra Fort: On a walking distance from the gardens of Taj Mahal lies another important Mughal monument called the Agra Fort. This colossal citadel of red sandstone comprises other exquisite constructions like the Khas Mahal, Moti Masjid, Jahangir Palace, Sheesh Mahal (The Glass Palace) and more.

4. Fatehpur Sikri, later deserted by Emperor Akbar, was the capital of the Mughal Empire between 1570 and 1585. It was constructed under the personal supervision of Akbar. The city was built on the site where he had met the Sufi saint, Sheikh Salim Chishti whose blessings helped the emperor to have his first son, as the legend says. The city, however, was abandoned only after fifteen years due to severe shortage of water in the locality.
