History

Established in April, 2004 by HE Hoda Kanoo, the Abu Dhabi festival was granted the patronage of His Highness General Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi in 2007. Under the support of H.H, the festival today is the largest classical arts event and has achieved international acclamation for quality through its dedication to Arts and Music. This festival has become an EFA member since 2007.

The Festival

Abu Dhabi festival is the premier celebration of cultural expression of The United Arab Emirates and has become a global destination of cultural enlightenment. This fascinating ground-breaking festival has raised the cultural barrier in the kingdom, as a result of the outstanding world-class performances by international stars, leading to an impressive number of sell out-concerts, drawing huge enthusiastic audience from both Arab countries and abroad.

The festival is a yearly sequence of glittering events that successfully bring together musicians, artists and audiences participating in ballets, fabulous art exhibition, and Arabian contemporary classical music. Time and venue of the festival

The festival is usually organized between the second week of March and first week of April and is held for about three weeks. The venue is the Emirates Palace at Abu Dhabi.

Region's hoteliers head to new openings on Abu Dhabi's Yas Island.

Aldar Hospitality is working in conjunction with a number of hotel companies across the region to help find jobs for hospitality staff that have been made redundant as a result of the current economic climate, according to managing director Paul Bell.

Having also initiated overseas recruitment drives in the wider GCC, the Far East and North Africa, Bell acknowledged market conditions outside Abu Dhabi had been more challenging.

“It is inevitable staff will look to new hotel openings in a market that is navigating this difficult period with greater ease for stability and job security as well as career development opportunities,” he explained.

Following a reported influx of hoteliers from Dubai to Abu Dhabi’s Yas Island, Bell insisted employee packages offered at The Yas Hotel were in line with the market.

“The Yas Island hotels are managed by a number of operators and brands with their own salary and benefits scales — the decisions on individual positions and remuneration are taken by the operator in the best interests of the particular hotel.

“The operators have also had the opportunity to transfer staff to the new Yas Island properties from existing hotels in the region, which has helped them retain talented staff which might otherwise have not been possible. At The Yas Hotel, our packages are not significantly above the market average,” he added.
