Historical city of Chichawatni, placed in the Sahiwal District, Punjab province, Pakistan. This city serves as the main city of Sahiwal Division, and placed on famous Grand Trunk Road. It has all the facilities of
large city, with very good economic growth. Chichawatni is famous for its cotton, sugarcane, wheat and ice-cream parlors. This attractive city lies about 20 km from the ancient site of Harappa, and an excellent stopover for tourists, who are interested in traditional crafts and mouth-watering Pakistani cuisine. This highly industrious agricultural town also boasts several colleges and institutes. It is also mentionable over here that the people of this area are very intelligent and country lovers. This city named after a Hindu family, who lived before the government built a forest. Chichawatni has numerous places to visit, some of these are:
Chichawatni Forest: This forest comprise of many forests spread over an area of 9000 acres. It has the largest plantation in Pakistan. There was naturally
forest before 1918, and the new planned forest plantation started in 1823 by British Government. Agricultural University of Faisalabad also uses it for research purpose. A large guesthouse placed in the forest used to host Government Guests also foreigners. Punjab’s famous canal Lower Bari Doaab used for cultivation. It has also tourist attraction for hunting purpose.
Cattle Market: It is the major cattle market of Pakistan, called Mandi Muwaushiyan. This market set up in last 10 days of the month, and the first three days has crest of its business. People from Gawadar to Khyber gather here to buy and sell cattle.
Stadium: It is a huge kabbadi stadium having flo
odlights. This city is hometown of many wrestlers, and many Kabbadi matches between India and Pakistan and also National Championships have held at Chichawatni.
Chichawatni Railway Station: It is a historical railway station, situated on the north side of Old Chichawatni in 1918. Chichawatni forest is adjacent to this railway track, and increases the significance of this city.
Lower Bari Doab Canal: A hydropower project for Chichawatni developed on this canal, and it is a main source of irrigation in the region. This canal initiate from the left bank of Balloki Barrage. The project area is easily accessible and linked by all means, as railway, and road. It is also a famous picnic spot in Chichawatni, and hundreds of people from nearby cities and villages come to visit this canal.
