Have a Great Time in Chicago

There is an endless stream of things to do in Chicago no matter your age or interests. Children will love walking through the famous Field Museum while their parents may prefer shopping along the Magnificent Mile. No matter what your tastes, you are sure to find many Chicago attractions to keep you entertained for days.

Museums in ChicagoMuseums

There are many museums in Chicago, but some big hitters include the Field Museum, filled with dinosaur bones and Shedd Aquarium where many varieties of aquatic species call home. Additionally, the Art Institute of Chicago is a popular place to visit. The variety of artists, from Monet to Van Gogh is astounding and worth the visit.

Another museum that everyone can enjoy is the Museum of Science and Industry. This museum contains exhibits which are designed to teach the viewer various science lessons. A favorite among many museum goers is the section focusing on the human body where you see a gigantic heart and see things like where all the valves are located. There is also a concentration test where you can challenge a friend to see whose mind can stay focused the longest. Another popular attraction is the weather center where a two story tornado is in motion and controlled by those below. And don’t forget to stop by during the Christmas season to see evergreen trees decorated with items from countries around the world.

Navy-PierOther Attractions

After checking out all the museums Chicago has to offer, some shopping and dining may be in store. Navy Pier is a popular destination for many. Located on the shore of Lake Michigan, this top rated site includes a 150-foot Ferris wheel along with countless dining options and places to spend all that hard earned cash.

If you want to get a great view of the Windy City, make sure to take some time to head up to the John Hancock Observatory and SkyDeck Chicago located at the Willis Tower. Both of these attractions will give you an amazing view of the city and are a tourist favorite.

A location gaining attention in recent years is Millennium Park where you can see the iconic “Cloud Gate” sculpture. Visitors enjoy walking around this stainless steel contraption and watching as the image of their body is distorted before their eyes. And, as long as you are in the park, make sure to check out the gardens. If you are lucky and the Lurie Garden volunteers are out, make sure to catch one of their guided tours of the grounds. Here you can learn the reasoning behind each plant choice and what each season brings to the imagery.

No list of things to do in Chicago would be complete without a nod to the excellent theaters the city has to offer. Chicago is filled with famous theaters including the Goodman Theatre, Steppenwolf Theatre Company, and the famous Chicago Theatre. If you are a lover of improv comedy or just seeking a laugh, check out Chicago’s Second City. This is the place where famous comedians such as Gilda Radner, John Candy, and Steve Carell honed their craft. Lucky individuals may just see the next up–and-comer perform at this famous theater.

Whether you are in Chicago for a week or just one day, you will have no problem finding something to do. From the museums, to the parks, to the shows, there is always fun to be found. Just remember to hold on to your hats as you visit the sights of this exciting “Windy City”!
