What started as a small-scale effort by Wendy Kidd in 1993 with a group of eight performers performing for three nights, turned into a mega-festival that includes world-class artists, musician
s and performers, from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada, presenting operas, stand-up comedies, and outdoor theatre. In fact, the gala festival starting from end of March till early April every year transforms Barbados into a centre of festivity.
Holder Season is held at Holder House at St. James. The house is in existence for 300 years and is an interesting mixture of Barbadian and English vernacular. The event grounds are surrounded by tropical trees and shrubs, creating a perfect setting for open-air theatre, which comes alive during the Holder Season.
The festival gives a platform to the exciting new works by budding talented artists who get a chance to present their skills in front of the world. It also hosts famous polo matches in an exquisite setting. Adding to the mood-lift is the soft lighting and the exquisite decoration, which romantically enhances the natural beauty of the surrounding. How to reach the Event Grounds
The Holder Season grounds are located on the west coast of Barbados, in the parish of St. James. It is reachable through the Spring Garden highway from different parts of the island. Direct flights are available to Barbados from several cities of the United States. However, flight services are frequent by the Grantley Adams airlines.
When to go
Winter is the best season for a trip to Barbados as Spring and summers are uncomfortably warm.
