Louvre Museum in The City of Love

The Louvre Museum“The Louvre Museum is indisputably one of the optimum art galleries/ museums in the world that has been restore by the French. Dwelling to thousands of classic and modern masterpieces, the Louvre is the jewel in the crown of French culture, an immense testament to European civilizations and history,” as it was described by one of the websites I visited. It lies in the heart of Paris City between the Seine River and Rue de Rivoli. The museum was founded to defend the city from Viking attacks. It was headed by Philip II in 1190. The museum was originally designed by architect Pierre Lescot with its remarkable version of the Renaissance, but with his death, various artists worked for the completion of the building. The different wings of the museum were designed according to its purpose by different architecture. Each wing houses different art collections. Hundreds of them were invited along with the craftsmen to live and work the building’s lower floor. Because of some infrastructural problems, it was being shut down for five (5) years, but has regained it back.

Edifice of the Museum
The museum has a total area of 652,300 square feet and more than 35, 000 objects placed in it. As famous as it is, there are also famous works displayed in this museum by prominent people. Among those art were that art of Leonardo da Vinci’s famous and controversial painting – the Mona Lisa. This famous painting is protected against climate change by a protective glass. Other works like Rembrandt, Fragonard Poussin,, Rubens, David, and Titian can also be seen here. Other interesting works displayed here are Winged Victory of Samothrace and the Venus de Milo and the collection of Baron Edmond de Rothschild. The museum has more than 40,000 engravings, nearly 3,000 drawings and 500 illustrated books which fill the exhibition room along with the other works mentioned.
