If you’re looking for extravagance, top-tier shopping, world-class hotels and holiday special offers to make it all a bit more affordable, look no further than Dubai, one of the ritziest cities in the United Arab Emirates.

Islam stands at the heart of Dubai, and though traditions run deep, this is a city that has soared into the present and is well on its way to creating a vacation experience found nowhere else with dramatic additions in the near future. Dubai is a city of extremes. It is home to the tallest building and the largest man-made island, and before long it will be the site of the world’s largest shopping mall, biggest hotel and most extensive entertainment venue as well.

This Middle Eastern country prides itself on hosting visitors, and it is known for its detail-oriented customer service. No request seems too small in Dubai, a place where hospitality is second nature. Classy, oversized resorts that have earned 5-, 6- and 7-star ratings offer the ultimate in luxury. World-class chefs wait on diners in restaurants scattered throughout the city and overlooking the sea. A host of fine golf courses, high-end shopping and hot nightlife are abundant as well.

Nestled on the coast of the Arabian Sea, the city has a stunning coastline. With miles of pristine, powdery beaches, warm water and nearly year-round sunshine, many people are content to let the lazy days roll by as they lounge on the shore. Those who venture into the water, though, will have a selection of water sports and activities to choose from. To experience Dubai from a different perspective, consider booking a dhow cruise. These cruises run throughout the day and can also be booked for evening excursions, which provide a unique view of the city’s lit-up skyline.

In the city, shoppers should check out the tax-free mall. For a more authentic experience, don’t forget to stop by the traditional local markets, where bargaining is acceptable and expected. The most popular of these markets is the Gold Souk, which is located in Dubai’s commercial business district in Deira and caters almost exclusively to those interested in purchasing jewelry.

If you prefer to cool down another way, spend an afternoon at Ski Dubai, an indoor winter recreation park designed for skiers, snowboarders or those who want to indulge in snowfall despite the searing temperatures outside.

Dubai also serves up a healthy dose of adventure for those interested in getting out of the city to explore the natural surroundings. Visitors to the United Arab Emirates should fill up their water bottles and venture out for a desert safari. On one of these trips, you may be able to drive up and down the sand dunes, ride camels and munch on authentic Arabic cuisine with the locals.
